Tom Burns
Head Athletic Trainer
St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine

Tom Burns, better known as Burnsy, has been the Athletic Trainer at Boone County High School since 1992.  He joined the staff at St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine in the summer of 2015 and is happy to be working for such a great organization.  Tom is responsible for the treatment and care of all athletes here at Boone County.  His job includes, but is not limited to the prevention, evaluation and management of injuries including coordinating MD and physical therapy appointment.  He is also responsible for all first aid and emergency care of the athletes.

 

Before practice, Burnsy tapes, bandages, wraps, and braces the athletes.   Then during practice, he  evaluates injuries and determines an appropriate intervention and management plan including whether or not to refer athletes to a physician. He attends all soccer, football and volleyball home games in the fall, home basketball games in the winter, and home baseball, softball, and track in the spring.

A graduate of North Carolina Charlotte in 1984, Tom majored in Elementary Education.  He is a Kentucky licensed Athletic Trainer and member of the Kentucky Athletic Trainers Society.

Tom  says his favorite part of the job is dealing with all the great athletes and families at Boone County High School.

Taylor Ruder
Athletic Trainer
St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine

Taylor Ruder joined the staff at St. Eliabeth Sports Medince in 2016 and will be assisting Tom Burns at Boone County on an as needed basis.  Taylor's primary responsiblity will be the coverage of 3 Boone County Middle Schools...RA Jones, Ockerman Middle and Grey Middle School and will also assist at Ryle High School on a as need basis. 

She is a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph College in Cincinnati where she earned her Bachelors of Athletic Training. Taylor is certified throught the NATA (National Athletic Trainers Association) and is licensed in the state of Kentucky

Dr. Michael Miller
Consulting Physician /
Concussion Specialist
St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine

Michael J. Miller, M.D. is a sports medicine specialist and has been the Medical Director of St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine since its inception in 1989. He earned his bachelor of arts degree from Miami University in Oxford, OH in 1980. He is also a 1984 graduate of The Ohio State University where he earned his M.D degree.

He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and completed a primary care sports medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in 1988. He holds a current certificate of added qualifications (CAQ) in sports medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine. In 1998, he served as team physician at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, New York.

In 2000, he was recognized as a Best Doctor by Cincinnati Magazine. He is very active in teaching and also serves as team physician for Ryle High School and Thomas More College.

Dr. Miller is currently an active member of the Kentucky Medical Association committee on physical education and medical aspects of sports. In addition to treating orthopedic injuries, Dr. Miller enjoys treating the medical, psychological and nutritional needs of the active individual. He also has a special interest in the treatment of concussions and is a Credentialed ImPACT™ Consultant.
